How Time Mode Works

Learn how KeyGati's timed typing test measures your performance.

What Is Time Mode?

KeyGati Time Mode is a timed typing test that measures how quickly and accurately you can type within a selected time limit. You can choose a test duration and begin typing when you are ready.

During the test, KeyGati displays your typing speed, accuracy, remaining time, and character statistics so you can monitor your performance while you type.

How Does the Test Start?

Select a test duration and begin typing the displayed passage. The timer starts when you begin entering text. You do not need to press a separate start button before typing.

As you continue typing, KeyGati checks the characters you enter against the displayed passage and updates your statistics during the test.

How Does the Timer Work?

Time Mode runs for the duration you select. The remaining time is displayed while you type and decreases throughout the test.

When the timer reaches zero, the test ends and your final typing statistics are displayed. If you finish a displayed passage before the timer ends, KeyGati can provide another passage so you can continue typing during the remaining time.

How Is WPM Calculated?

KeyGati uses the conventional typing measurement where five correctly typed characters are counted as one word. WPM represents the number of these words typed per minute.

WPM = Correct Characters ÷ 5 ÷ Time in Minutes

Only correctly typed characters contribute to the WPM calculation. This allows the displayed speed to reflect both the amount of text typed and the accuracy of the entered characters.

How Is Accuracy Calculated?

Accuracy represents the percentage of typed characters that match the characters in the displayed passage.

Accuracy = Correct Characters ÷ Total Typed Characters × 100

For example, if you type 100 characters and 95 of them are correct, your accuracy is 95%.

What Do the Character Statistics Mean?

The character statistics show the number of correctly typed characters compared with the total number of characters you have entered.

For example, a result of 180 / 200 means that 180 characters were correct out of 200 typed characters.

How Can You Use Time Mode?

Time Mode can be useful for regular typing practice because it gives you a fixed period in which to focus on your typing technique and consistency.

Try different durations and focus on maintaining accurate keystrokes rather than immediately trying to maximise your WPM. Comparing results from similar sessions can help you understand how your typing performance changes over time.
