How Words Test Works

Learn how KeyGati's word-based typing test measures your performance and score.

What Is the Words Test?

KeyGati Words Test is a word-based typing test that gives you a fixed set of words to type. Unlike Time Mode, the Words Test is not based on a countdown. Instead, you work through the displayed words and complete the test at your own pace.

During the test, KeyGati tracks your typing speed, accuracy, and character performance. Once the test is completed, your results are used to calculate your final score.

How Does the Test Work?

The Words Test presents a set of words for you to type. Start typing the displayed words and continue until the current set is completed.

KeyGati checks the characters you enter against the target text and keeps track of correctly typed and total typed characters throughout the test.

How Is WPM Calculated?

Words per minute (WPM) is calculated using the standard convention that five correctly typed characters count as one word.

WPM = Correct Characters ÷ 5 ÷ Time in Minutes

The Words Test uses the number of correctly typed characters and the time taken to complete the test to calculate your WPM.

How Is Accuracy Calculated?

Accuracy measures how many of your typed characters match the expected characters.

Accuracy = Correct Characters ÷ Total Typed Characters × 100

For example, if 190 out of 200 typed characters are correct, your accuracy is 95%.

How Is the Final Score Calculated?

The Words Test combines WPM and accuracy into a single score. WPM contributes up to 1,000 points, while accuracy contributes up to 500 points.

Score = (WPM ÷ 150 × 1000) + (Accuracy ÷ 100 × 500)

This means that both typing speed and accuracy affect the final result. Increasing your WPM increases the speed component of the score, while higher accuracy increases the accuracy component.

Example Score Calculation

Suppose you finish the test with a WPM of 60 and an accuracy of 95%.

(60 ÷ 150 × 1000) + (95 ÷ 100 × 500) = 875

In this example, the WPM contributes 400 points and the accuracy contributes 475 points, giving a total score of 875.

How Can You Use the Words Test?

The Words Test can be useful when you want to practice typing without working against a countdown. You can focus on maintaining a steady rhythm, accurate keystrokes, and consistent typing technique.

Try repeating the test regularly and compare your WPM, accuracy, and score across sessions. Individual results can vary depending on the words presented and your typing conditions.
